A.K.C. CANINE GOOD CITIZEN CERTIFICATION TEST

All breeds of dogs (mixed or purebred) who have already had obedience training or are currently enrolled in a training class are welcome to try to earn their Canine Good Citizen (C.G.C.) Certificate. Your dog will be tested on ten skills outlined in the American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen Program. These skills demonstrate his responses to basic obedience commands, and indicate whether he will behave in a well-mannered way when out in public and in the midst of distractions. |

Students who pass all ten parts of the test will receive the paperwork needed to obtain their official certificate from the American Kennel Club. Students who pass the certification may purchase a collar tag or an embroidered patch (to sew on a jacket -- or your dog's bandana!). We send a list of all dogs who earn their Canine Good Citizen Certificates to the American Kennel Club in New York, to be recorded officially on your dog's record. Also, we will be congratulating these commendable canines and their handlers on the "Awards" section of our "Wags & Brags" page of this website!
This program as offered as a two-week class in order to allow for practice on skills if needed. However, some dogs may be able to pass all ten skills within one meeting. If there are some skills you don't pass, your Evaluator can give you some pointers on what to work on at home to prepare for passing the remaining skills to earn your certificate. You may then re-test on a later testing date for just $5.00.

You may register for a CGC test through any city where it is offered, regardless of where you live. However, some cities do charge a Non-Resident fee, so you should review all the options listed before deciding where to register for a CGC Test if you don't live in that city.
